STANWAY ROVERS’ supreme form continued with a 2-1 success at home to lowly Swaffham.

Angelo Harrop’s side have now won 21 of their 29 Thurlow Nunn League premier division fixtures as Pip Boyland and Ben Newson netted at The Hawthorns.

With runaway leaders Norwich United inactive, second-placed Stanway are now seven points behind the Norfolk side.

Both have applied for promotion but only one – the champions – will go up to the Ryman League.

“All we can do is keep winning our games and keep the pressure on Norwich,” said Harrop, whose side have another big match at Felixstowe & Walton on Tuesday night.

Swaffham’s consolation came in the second half.

Elsewhere, FC CLACTON travelled to Saffron Walden, hoping to complete a double against their fellow Essex side.

The Seasiders recently beat Walden 3-0 at the Rush Green Bowl but there was to be no repeat this time around and they slid to a 4-0 defeat.

The afternoon got off to a disastrous start when the car taking their kit got delayed – meaning kick-off had to be put back until just after 3.30pm.

Then, to compound matters, the hosts took the lead after just 40 seconds.

Their second then followed midway through the first half and they added two more after the break.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC, another form side, were at home to Thetford and won again, this time 2-0.

Sean Gunn scored both first-half goals, with the second coming from the penalty spot.

In division one, WIVENHOE TOWN’s sensational season continued courtesy of another victory at the Maple Tree Cars Stadium.

The top-of-the-table Dragons beat Dereham Town Reserves 1-0 and have now won 23 of their 27 fixtures.

They have drawn three of them and only lost once – form that has allowed them to open a huge 13-point lead over second-placed Great Yarmouth, who won 3-2 at Downham.

Mo Osman’s side will be just four points shy of a definite return to the premier division if they beat Halstead Town on Friday night.

Adam Hampson slotted home the only goal of the game in the early stages of the first half.

HALSTEAD TOWN boss Mark Benterman was hoping for a positive reaction from his players following their First Division Knockout Cup semi-final last Saturday.

And he duly got just that, thanks to a 3-1 success at home to Diss.

Diss took an early lead before Sam Cripps’ levelled and the Humbugs – up to fourth in the table - added two late goals through Cripps again and Jordan Pavett.

The visitors were also reduced to ten men in the first half, when one of their players was sent-off for two bookings.

BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES won 3-1 at home to March Town United.
