Halstead Amateur Boxing Club’s hectic schedule continued with top schoolboy boxer Frasier Hughes missing out on the tightest of split points victories.
Hughes was facing Ben Brown of Trumpington ABC St Ives at a show at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge, with Richard Groves and George Cook in his corner.
Right from the start, both boxers were trading punches and each in turn dominated proceedings.
Hughes used good foot movement and skills and held the ring centre with sharp, steady left hands to good effect at the start of the second round but Brown rose to the occasion with some impressive attacks.
However in the final round, Hughes connected with well-placed combination punches. Brown was a tough battler, though, and kept coming forward.
Hughes picked up the pace, hitting and moving well with long-range shots to head and body, putting his punches together nicely to pick up the points and posting a good final round.
Unfortunately for the Halstead fighter, though, taking his foot off the gas in earlier rounds cost him the bout.
