Gosfield Lake Golf Club’s final competition of 2015 was the Christmas Cup and Kevin Stedman had the last laugh as he claimed a narrow victory.

A shotgun start in unseasonably warm and calm weather resulted in an exciting finish with some excellent golf played.

Winner on the Lakes course was Stedman, whose 41 points gave him top spot on countback as he edged Richard Murden into second place.

In third place was Matt Payne with 40 points and Steve Clark was fourth with 39.

Nearest the pins were Malcolm Rawson on the second, Graham Barnard on the eighth, George Castle on the 15th and Barney De Beer on the 17th.

The Meadows course winner was Robert Hearn with 35 points with Richard Maynard taking the runners-up spot on 32 points.

Hearn also made it a double celebration when he won the nearest the pin prize on the 11th hole.

The competition was followed by a lunch and a presentation of the day’s prizes on both courses and also the prizes from the last few months’ competitions.

Steve and Sharon Clark received the Francis Salver as mixed pairs knockout champions and Steve also joined Vernon Fullalove to claim the O’Shea Bowl as men’s pairs knockout champions.

It proved a busy lunch for Steve as his name was also called to receive a bottle of port for nearest the pin in the Christmas Classic.
