STANWAY ROVERS have booked their place in the third round of the FA Vase following a fantastic 2-1 victory at home to Mildenhall Town.

Angelo Harrop’s side got to within one win of the quarter-finals last season, before bowing out at St Austell.

As a reward, they were given a bye until this stage of the competition and they made safe progress in their second-round tie at The Hawthorns.

Billy Hunt grabbed his first goal for the club since joining from Ryman League neighbours Heybridge Swifts.

Craig Hughes also netted before the visitors pulled one back.

Stanway held on for the victory and will now look forward to discovering their next opponents, when the draw is made on Monday lunchtime.

Thurlow Nunn League rivals FC CLACTON and BRANTHAM ATHLETIC were both without premier division fixtures as their scheduled opponents were in Vase action.

WIVENHOE TOWN’S remarkable season continued with a 3-1 victory at March Town United.

It means the Dragons are still unbeaten at the top of the division one, with a nine-point lead over second-placed Ely City.

They took the lead when Adam Hampson headed in Ben Lampon’s cross.

And it got even better when March gifted a chance to Joe Heron, who needed no second invitation to make it 2-0.

The hosts pulled one back before half-time but Wivenhoe restored their two-goal lead thanks to another strike from the prolific Ray Turrner.

The player-assistant manager netted with a low effort after being teed up by Jamie Baker.

Elsewhere in division one, HALSTEAD TOWN lost 3-2 at AFC Sudbury Reserves.

Marcus Warren gave them the lead but the hosts equalised and then took the lead with goals either side of the break.

Warren made it all-square from the penalty spot before Sudbury grabbed their late winner from 25 yards.
