HALSTEAD Amateur Boxing Club top senior welterweight James Blore had his first bout of the season.

The 69 kilos boxer took on Alex Ananuve, of Harrow ABC, on the Eastgates ABC Open Boxing Show, in Bury St Edmunds.

Ananuve had already had five bouts this season, winning them all.

Blore (pictured) was on fire as he started at a blistering pace, releasing a high volume of punches.

Blore kept his cool against his more experienced opponent, putting on a quality display of exciting skills in all departments to end round one.

In the second, Ananuve was not to be denied and punched back at every opportunity but Blore raised his work-rate.

Midway through the round, he caught Ananuve with a blistering right hand high on the right-hand side of his head which had him in trouble but somehow he held on until the bell sounded to end round two.

The action was exciting and incredibly hard in the final round.

With a minute to go, Blore started to dominate as he slipped under Ananuve’s defence, landing hurtful solid punches to the body and catching him continuously with powerful hooks flush on his chin as Ananuve came forward.

At the end both boxers received a tremendous ovation from the audience with Blore winning by a unanimous decision.

The officials in charge were so impressed by Blore they awarded him the trophy for Best Boxer of the Evening.

Coaches Richard Groves and Paul Turner were in Blore’s corner.
