STANWAY ROVERS and WIVENHOE TOWN both picked up victories in their respective Thurlow Nunn League divisions.

Rovers proved party poopers at Saffron Walden Town, winning 2-1.

The Bloods were marking a special milestone – 125 years of football at their Catons Lane ground.

All junior players were invited along for free and there was a crowd of over 300.

However, Stanway marred their big day by recording a 2-1 victory, thanks to a winning goal from Richie Meadows.

In the process they climbed up to fourth in the premier division.

Wivenhoe, meanwhile, are the only unbeaten team in Essex senior football, after beating Ely City 1-0.

The Dragons have won ten of their 11 games and are clear at the top of division one, four points above second-placed Great Yarmouth.

Hasan Ayten scored the winning goal in the second half.

Wivenhoe are now preparing for a busy week in which they host Woodbridge Town in the League Challenge Cup on Wednesday before going to AFC Sudbury Reserves for a league game on Friday.

In the weekend’s other matches, Adam Daniels netted twice as FC CLACTON drew 2-2 at home to Kirkley & Pakefield.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC lost 5-0 at neighbours Hadleigh United on Friday night.

In division one, Cameron Storie was on target again but it proved only a consolation as HALSTEAD TOWN lost 4-1 at Leiston Reserves.
