Luke Banner may be fit for Halstead Town’s FA Vase date at Sporting Bengal United tomorrow.

The Humbugs goalkeeper has been out since injuring his ankle in the 2-0 defeat by Stowmarket last month and had looked likely to be out for several more weeks.

Manager Mark Benterman brought in Elliot Ringe ahead of last weekend’s 2-1 Thurlow Nunn League division one win against Woodbridge Town and was impressed with how his new signing performed on his Halstead debut.

The Town boss said Ringe would challenge with Banner for the keeper’s berth and there was a possibility that he may have a decision to make as early as tomorrow.

“There’s a possibility that Luke could be back and fit for the FA Vase game on Saturday,” said Benterman.

“That’s down to the fantastic work of our physio because this time last week, we were looking at him being out for several weeks so we’re delighted that he’s close to being back.

“It is touch and go whether he’ll be ready for Saturday, but the swelling that was on the ankle has gone off and fingers-crossed, we’ll see how he recovers after a training session.

“If he isn’t available, we’re well-covered as Elliot Ringe came in last weekend and did well.

“I’m excited to see what he can offer us."
