Abbie Kerr battled against older rivals to take a top-ten finish in her age group at the British Triathlon Under-20 Festival at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.

The Sible Hedingham youngster was one of a few 13-year-olds competing against mainly 14-year-olds in TriStar Three, but she finished ninth in her category and only one minute 23 seconds behind the winner.

Kerr’s event consisted of a 350-metre open water swim, a 7.7-kilometre cycle ride and a 2.6km run.

The swim saw the Hedingham School pupil exit the lake in 27th position, before she climbed through the field to finish the cycle ride in 18th place.

The run was where Kerr excelled, though, as she pushing her way up to ninth with an overall finishing time of 33m 16s.
