Imogen Newby brought home not only individual silverware from the Southern Counties Junior Championships at Rayleigh, but helped Essex secure a huge victory in the county team competition.
A Bristol V was the first day’s competition, with 144 arrows fired at 30 yards, 20 yards and ten yards.
The 11-year-old from Halstead bashed the gold part of the target at 30 yards and finished close to her personal best (PB) as she continued to fire well at 20 yards.
A final score of 1,250 saw her take the gold medal and got her into the gold medal-winning county team as Essex beat Surrey by 657 points.
Newby, who is a pupil at Chappel Primary School, also entered the under-14 Bristol IV the following day in the Claire Stanford Memorial Shoot Runwell Open.
It was a chance to try to get one more county record this year, which is held by Archery GB Junior Lauren Bann, and she was pleased with her efforts.
Her final tally of 1,232 was enough to give Newby the best overall junior lady score of the day, but it was ten points behind Bann’s record.
