Sudbury Motor Cycle Club’s Jamie Roper has wrapped up the G H Motorcycles/ Husqvarna/Eastern Centre Enduro Championship title for the third year running.

Roper needed a top-three finish at the final round at Butley in Suffolk to overhaul the absent aston Bird and retain his crown.

He took advantage of an error by Sudbury team-mate Chris Hockey in the penultimate session of the day to take the lead and held on to that in the final session to secure the Championship class title for another year.

It means Sudbury riders have won the title 22 times over the last 27 years as Roper finished seven points clear of Bird, with Sudbury’s Sam Toy, who was second at Butley, third overall and Hockey fourth.

Will Hughes (Braintree) had already won the Expert class title, while the Mark Chapman (Diss) held on to his lead in the Expert Veteran class. Alex Rampton (Sudbury) was out to make amends for an eighth place in the previous round and he didn’t slip up this time as he won the Clubman class on the day to wrap up that title.

Ryan McDonnell was second at Butley and second in the final standings, while Alex Walton was third and Jamie Lagden fourth to make it a clean sweep of the top four positions for Sudbury on the day.

The Clubman Veteran title went to Sudbury’s John Austin thanks to his win on the day ahead of club-mate Phil Waldron, while Andy Mason of Sudbury retained his Clubman Super Veteran crown with a final-round victory. Pete McDonnell (Sudbury) recovered from a slow start to the season to finish as champion in the Sportsman class.
