Halstead Courtauld Bowls Club’s A and B teams had a great end to this year’s North West Essex League as both teams finished with wins at home.
The A team beat champions Silver End A 8-0 while the B team completed the double over Braintree A with a 6-2 win. These results mean the A team jumped above Braintree A to finish third in the league.
Tony Garrett, Adrian Smart and Russell Harmour set the pace by winning 22-14, while Colin Tuxworth, John Collyer and John Ovel won 17-14 and Clive Cracknell, Brian Chadwick and Pat Ashcroft won 17-10.
The B team had Terry Bocking, Tony Jones and Gerry Cook winning 21-14 and Mike Bristow, Ron Guthrie and Roy Clemence sealing a 26-14 victory.
However, Eric Marson, Ray Joslin and Geoff Hughes lost 22-17 and that result sealed the team’s relegation.
The C team continued their miserable end to the season by losing 6-2 at Silver End C.
Stan Jones, Bernard Rust and Ernie Simmonds lost 30-8 and Tony Hill, Roy Sycamore and Bob Brace lost 23-17, but David Cole, Bob Tuck and Terry Reynolds won 21-7.
The C team have finished their season in second place.
A friendly against Hatfield Peverel saw Halstead win on three of the four rinks and by 81 shots to 61.
Ted Cooney, Betty Burrell and Ernie Simmonds won 19-15, Bill Wilson, John Juniper and Terry Reynolds won 30-11 and Brenda Mandry, Malcolm Wayne, Stan Jones won 16-15 but Terry Bocking, Stan Davies, Mike Bristow lost 20-16.
