Halstead Town manager Mark Benterman is keeping his players’ feet on the floor despite seeing his team make another strong start to a Thurlow Nunn League division one season.

With seven points taken from their opening three games – including last weekend’s 1-0 win at March Town United – the present campaign is looking similar to the starts they have enjoyed in the previous two with Benterman as boss.

However, while he is delighted to have made another solid opening, the Humbugs manager knows nothing is won at this stage of the campaign and isn’t allowing his players to get carried away ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Debenham LC (kick-off 3pm).

“I’m very pleased with the start that we’ve had,” said Benterman.

“It’s crucial to get off to a good start as it brings confidence to the side.

“We have that now and we have good competition for places in the squad. But we’re not getting carried away as we’ve had good starts in all of the three seasons that I’ve been manager.

“Last year we lost just three of the first 17 and the season before that we won ten of our first 11 games so it shows we do our pre-season right.

“It also shows that we have gelled well as a team straight away, but we need to keep our feet firmly on the floor because we have another big week coming up.

“We’re at home against Debenham tomorrow, then it’s Braintree away on Tuesday and Needham Market away after that.

“We’ve taken seven points from three games so far so we now want to take seven – at least – from the next three.”

Benterman said he expected to be able to name a strong squad for Halstead’s home game against Debenham LC tomorrow, with James Murray able to play for the first time this season.

However, Brad Keefe is unlikely to be available.
