HALSTEAD Cricket Club coach Phil Toogood has described Josh Wells’ batting performance as a massacre on Sudbury’s bowlers.
Skipper Wells bludgeoned 136 in his side’s dramatic one-wicket defeat at the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division one leaders on Saturday.
“We played very well and many felt we deserved to win,” said Toogood.
“It was almost the perfect day, with just one thing missing – a victory.
“After the loss of Ollie Grayson, Josh and Charlie Douglas-Hughes put on close to 100.
“And when Charlie was out, Josh basically massacred the bowling, hitting over 100 in boundaries.
“Regretfully, he ran himself out for 136 as the way he was batting, I was thinking a double century was on the cards.
“Once Josh was out, our Achilles heel struck again, with the middle order not accumulating enough.”
