This season will see a new rugby team being born with the aim of raising money for the Brain Tumour trust and other local charities.

The Saladins Barbarians team is the brainchild of former Halstead Templars coach Barry Poulter and ex-Templars players Ian Ross and Andy Quinn.

It will have the dual purpose of raising money and getting people playing rugby who do not want to commit to a full season.

The team will play five fixtures a year – all away from home – in the traditional barbarian style and already have fixtures in place for September and January.

Sponsors are already in place and the team already have around 15 players but would welcome many more.

No membership will be charged and any match fees will go to the appointed charities.

Anyone wishing to register an interest playing or sponsorship should contact Poulter on 07428 677550.
