Halstead Town are continuing to build an enviable strike force as they go in search of Thurlow Nunn League division one promotion next season.

However, manager Mark Benterman knows promise on paper must be turned into goals on the pitch if they are to succeed this year.

Benterman has been adding to his squad this week with the signings of Jourdan Kiwomya and Josh Capocci and with Tom Holdstock already on board and Jonah Gosling possibly coming back if his trial at Chelmsford City doesn’t work, then attacking options won’t be in short supply.

Kiwomya, the son of former Ipswich Town and Arsenal star and Notts County manager Chris Kiwomya, is joining Halstead after a spell at Thurlow Nunn League premier division side Brantham Athletic last year.

Benterman said: “JK is a great lad and someone who I tried to bring to Halstead on loan last year.

“It didn’t work out as (Brantham manager) Paul Abrahams moved on, but we’re delighted to have JK with us now.

“He is strong and powerful and has scored a lot of goals at a higher level.

“We are trying to be fluid up front and we’ll play him as a striker to make sure we get the best out of him.”

Joining Kiwomya in Halstead’s squad will be another player who will give Benterman fresh attacking options.

Capocci brings a wealth of experience after coming through Ipswich Town’s youth programme alongside current Premier League striker Connor Wickham, before moving on to Peterborough United and Benterman is excited to have him at the Humbugs.

He added: “The pedigree that Josh is bringing to us is excellent.

“I saw him at Whitton United and what he can do at our level and I see him as a massive signing for us.

“He played for Stowmarket against us last year and he turned us inside out.

“He plays in the hole behind the striker and the winning mentality that he brings to the table is brilliant.”

The attacking duo join Holdstock as new additions that will bolster Halstead’s goal threat this year – an area that Benterman felt they were lacking in last year.

He said: “All the teams who did well last year had a striker who was a 20 to 25 goal-a-season player, but we found it was very hard to replace someone like Jordan Palmer.

“Our top scorer was Jordan Hutchings with about ten so it’s something we’ve moved to address.

“We’ve got JK, Tom Holdstock and Josh Capocci as well as players from last year like Hutch, Jonah Gosling if it doesn’t work out (at Chelmsford) and Tom Cook who all have goals in them.

“I’ve had loads of texts and Tweets from people saying that we’re really going for it and I’ve said that it may look good on paper, but we’ve got to make sure that we turn that into goals and performances on the pitch.

“The front line looks phenomenal on paper, but that’s on paper and it’s down to me to make it happen on the pitch.”
