Club captain Malachy Shields, Chris Wilks-Wiffen, Tom Bowran and Craig Scolding claimed the Sir Henry Cotton Bursary Cup with victory in its 27th running at Gosfield Lake Golf Club.

The competition was initiated at the suggestion of Sir Henry Cotton, the three-time Open champion and designer of both courses at Gosfield, to raise funds for the benefit of junior golfers and this year’s event saw £3,250 collected.

The winning quartet scored 122 stableford points to win by four.

In second place, with 118 points, were the Thin and Fat Chips team of Joe Maynard, Simon Chandler, Terry Perkins and Steve Wilkins, who edged out the Gosfield Lake Club team of Roger Bramwell, Mick Leggett, Ralph Rowe and Andrew Epsom by one point. The fourth-placed team was the Flagfinders as Matt Payne, Jonathan Powell, Mark Francis and Nigel Kent scored 115 points.

Best individual score for a man was Mark Francis with 40 points, with Sandra Parnell taking ladies’ honours with 36 points.
