Imogen Newby proved untouchable at the Essex Outdoor County Junior Championships.

The county’s best young archers gathered at a Noak Hill venue that lived up to its reputation for having windy conditions, so it was less than ideal for shooting high scores, however, the Halstead youngster was in typically good form.

The competition shot was a Bristol V round, with 144 arrows shot at 122cm targets at distances of 30, 20 and ten yards. Newby continued the strong form she has showed this summer and that had earned the ten-year-old Chappel Primary School pupil several new county records while on Essex duty the week before.

A score of 598 out of 648 was an excellent start at 30 yards, before dropping just eight points out of a maximum 432 at the next distance in and a perfect 216 out of 216 at ten yards wrapped up the under-12 ladies’ recurve title. Newby’s score of 1,238 was just six points short of another county record and also saw the Braintree Bowmen ace take home the under-13 and under-18 ladies’ trophies for overall best score of the day.
