STANWAY ROVERS took a major step towards finishing as Thurlow Nunn League runners-up after winning 2-1 at Godmanchester Rovers today.
The pair, along with Kirkley and Pakefield, are involved in a three-way tussle to finish second, behind runaway leaders and champions Norwich United.
And Stanway gave their chances an enormous boost after taking all three points from their crucial clash at Bearscroft Lane.
Goals from Jake Clowsley and Craig Hughes made their long trek to Cambridgeshire worthwhile as they won 2-1.
With just two games left, Angelo Harrop's Rovers have 70 points, Godmanchester 69 and Kirkley 69.
The latter boosted their chances thanks to a 3-0 victory at home to previously in-form BRANTHAM ATHLETIC.
At the other end of the table, FC CLACTON notched a point from a 1-1 draw at Gorleston while WIVENHOE TOWN lost 6-4 in a crazy game at Whitton United.
The Seasiders, fourth from bottom, are now three points better off than the Dragons.
They also have a marginally better goal difference.
In division one, HALSTEAD TOWN won 2-0 at March Town United but BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES lost 3-2 at home to Swaffham.
