Halstead Templars warmed up for tomorrow’s return to Greene King Eastern Counties League division three south action with a slim friendly defeat by Colchester fourths.

The Templars were beaten by the narrowest of margins as they went down 20-19 in the friendly match at Colchester, but their main focus will be on tomorrow’s league action when they will travel to Clacton Kestrels (start 2pm).

The game will be Halstead’s first division three south outing for three weeks as they haven’t had a league game since a 45-7 loss to Colchester thirds on January 10.

They had been due to play Mersea Rhinos two weeks ago, but the game was handed to Templars without a ball being kicked or thrown after the Islanders were unable to raise a side for the fixture.

Halstead head into the game at Clacton sitting fourth in the division three south standings but only two points behind third-placed Harwich and Dovercourt seconds.
