Halstead Amateur Boxing Club’s school boy boxer Frasier Hughes was edged out on a split points decision as he made his debut in a tough encounter against Norman Burton of the Trumpington ABC on the Fenland Sparta Open Show in March.
Hughes excelled in this gripping bout, slowing his aggressive opponent throughout the first round with his stern jab and strong right hand.
The second round saw Burton come out with more determination as he pressed forward with some eye-catching punches but Hughes raised his work rate to stay in control with some solid one-two combinations as the round drew to a close.
Both boxers played their part in a tough third round but it was Burton who just won a split points decision.
Coaches Kurt Manders and Caroline Searles were in Hughes’ corner.
