Halstead Town manager Mark Benterman has his sights set on a top-two finish in the Thurlow Nunn League division one promotion race.

A finish in the top three would guarantee Halstead a move up to the premier division next season and they continue their bid with a long trip to Great Yarmouth Town today (kick-off 3.07pm).

Their 1-0 win at Swaffham Town last weekend – thanks to a Dan Grindrod goal in the first half – kept them on track to finish in those top three places, but boss Benterman is setting the sights a bit higher for his players and knows they have the desire to deliver for him. He said: “I want to go to Fakenham on the last day knowing that we are already up so we can enjoy it.

“Looking at the points that we have dropped this year, we should already be up and there have been some disappointing results, but the boys have reacted superbly in recent weeks.

“Three or four weeks ago I thought second place had gone from us, but it’s there to be taken now.

“The top three go up and I’d be very disappointed if we weren’t in there at the end from the position we’ve got ourselves into.

“Our players have re-energised themselves in the last couple of weeks and I now see a group who are demanding more from each other because they know how close they are."
