Town boss Benterman hails his defensive pairing
Mark Benterman knows he has two of the best defenders in Thurlow Nunn League division one in his Halstead Town team.
The Town boss sung the praises of central defensive duo Lewis Cunliffe and Ash Baptiste following their accomplished performance against Fakenham Town last weekend helped ensure a clean sheet for the Rosemary Lane side.
Baptiste epitomised the spirit within the Halstead camp as he played through a thigh injury picked up during the second half and Benterman feels there are none better in the league than his pairing.
He said: “Ash got injured in the game, but he wasn’t going to come off.
“The guy is immense and Lewis Cunliffe alongside him, I don’t care what anyone says, he is the best centre-half in this league.
“The only person that’s going to challenge him is Ash Baptiste and those two are fantastic.
“Lewis is held in such high regard.
“He is phenomenal and he and Ash play so well together.
“They are both quick, so can deal with anything in behind them and they’re both good in the air – you have to be a good striker to get anything from them.
“Hopefully we can keep them both fit for as long as possible and it’s a pairing that should excite a lot of people this year.”
