Positive performance in defeat
HALSTEAD Town’s under-18s produced an encouraging performance, only to lose 3-1 in their first friendly against lively Layer Colts.
They went behind early in the game.
However, an equaliser followed after a controlled build up.
Jamie Huwes found space in the six-yard box to finish through the goalkeeper’s legs.
Despite having plenty of possession, Layer came out on top after scoring two second-half goals.
A number of last season’s young guns have progressed to play in the reserve and first teams.
That meant a chance for the club’s even younger players to move up and stake a claim.
Sunday’s squad contained a mix of last season’s talent and no less than eight debutants, many of which were only 15.
This only bodes well for the coming season, with such an abundance of talent at the youth section’s disposal.
