Convincing win for boxer Joe
1:00pm Friday 1st March 2013 in Halstead Sport By Matt Plummer
HALSTEAD Amateur Boxing Club’s hectic schedule continued with junior light heavyweight Joe Bonito in action at the Bracknell Academy Open tournmament, in Gareth Hill College.
He produced a convincing performance against home boxer Dean Whitlam, from Bracknell ABC.
In the opening round, Bonito (pictured in this week's Gazette) showed a greater variety of punches and techniques, to keep the bout competitive.
The cleanest scoring punches came from Bonito, meaning he came out on top in round one.
Both boxers started the second round strongly but once again it was Bonito’s superior boxing skills and fitness that had Whitlam in trouble.
It forced him back against the ropes and he had no answer to Bonito’s powerful right-hand punches to the head and body.
The referee issued a standing-eight count before halting the bout, giving Bonito his first win in three outings.
The referee commended both boxers on a well-boxed contest.
Coaches Richard Groves and George Cook were in Bonito’s corner.
