EARLS Colne Cricket Club are preparing for a special milestone.

They are set to celebrate 175 years of the sport in their village with a cricket week and special events involving all aspects of the club.

Plans are under way for a series of games in June, with the club hoping to attract former players.

There will also be special indoor coaching sessions for youngsters, which re-start on Sundays from January 6, for ten weeks.

They are for school years four to six between 5.30pm and 6.30pm and for older players between 7pm and 9pm.

Secretary John Perfect said: “Coaching continues into the summer, with kwik cricket tournaments and colts league games.

“We are keen to hear from new players, male or female.”

The club are now part of the Jack Petchey bronze achievement award scheme for young players.

Each award is worth £200 to spend on items that will benefit the club, like cricket equipment or a team day out.

With three adult teams including a casuals friendly side, the club are always happy to welcome new players of all ages.

Indoor net sessions have been booked at Holmwood House School, in Colchester, on March 17 and 24 and April 7 and 14.
