ESSEX Eagles will be looking for their second win in three days when they host Warwickshire Bears in the Royal London One-Day Cup this afternoon.

The Eagles are in good heart following their crushing seven-wicket victory against Lancashire Lightning on Monday.

And all-rounder Ravi Bopara, who played a key part in the success, is now keen to build on the victory.

“Obviously I was delighted with my own performance but the really important thing is that it helped us to get the win,” said Bopara, who took four wickets and scored an unbeaten century.

“With the squad we have, this is a competition that we have targeted this season and this is a good start but we need to keep this going now.”

Essex also have a score to settle with Warwickshire who knocked them out of the competition at the quarter-final stage last year.

But head coach Paul Grayson has played down talk of securing revenge.

“That was a disappointing defeat of course but that’s all in the past and I’m just looking ahead to this match as we try to build on that excellent result against Lancashire at Chelmsford on Monday,” he said.

“That performance was a blueprint for how we want to play in 50-over cricket.

“We won the toss which was important because the ball nipped around a bit for a couple of hours but having said that, we bowled brilliantly and probably as well as I’ve seen us bowl as a unit.

“Then chasing down their total as comfortably as we did was a top-class performance. Ravi was outstanding.

“He will be the first to admit that he’s been a bit short of runs lately but he was top-class on Monday with both bat and ball and proved his worth.

“We also believe that we are a match for anyone in one-day cricket.

“Confidence is also high in the group at the moment, having qualified for the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-finals.

“But we know that it is vital to get a good start in this 50-over competition because if you lose two or three games early on, you can be out of it.”
