THE hottest London Marathon ever proved no Sweatt as two Witham Running Club records that had stood for more than a quarter of a century were shattered on the streets of the capital.

Rachel Sweatt and Owen Dare were the record-breaking pair as they claimed new club records in the hottest London Marathon on record.

They were among the 17 Witham members who joined more than 40,000 runners in braving the heat on the 26.2 mile course and it was Sweatt who claimed the honours as first home for the club.

She finished in just 34 seconds over the three-hour mark and while she missed out on breaking through that barrier in her first marathon, she was consoled by claiming the Witham Marathon record for senior women.

That record had stood for 25 years and Sweatt also finished as the 39th women overall.

Next home was Dare, who broke club legend John Roberts' record of 26 years in the Male 55 to 60 category with a finishing time of 3h 8m 39s.

The extremity of the heat affected almost every participant and while some did not meet their time targets, the club are extremely proud of all the runners who battled through the conditions to finish.
