Colchester United head coach John McGreal insists they do not approach their away games any differently to those at the Weston Homes Community Stadium – despite recent contrasting results.

The U’s head to Lincoln City on the back of some impressive form on the road, with McGreal’s side having taken eight points from a possible 12 away from home after going four games unbeaten away from Essex.

That is in contrast to their recent home record where they have lost four of their last five matches and McGreal’s side have lost as many games at the Community Stadium as they have on their travels, this season.

However, boss McGreal says they have deserved more than they have got at home, over recent games.

McGreal said: “I don’t set my team up any differently away from home – we just go and try win games of football.

“We’re a few wins short of where we should be, especially at home.

“But we are where we are, in the two years I’ve been here.

“We’ve come away from it of late but we have just been beaten by the best in the league in Accrington and also Notts County, who are a tough nut to crack.”

Colchester this weekend travel to play Lincoln at Sincil Bank for the first time in nearly two decades, needing a win to keep their slim play-off hopes alive.

They face an Imps side who have impressed in League Two this season under former Braintree Town boss Danny Cowley, challenging for a second successive promotion and also winning the Checkatrade Trophy, at Wembley.

“It’s a really tough game – Lincoln have got hopes of consolidating a play-off place and potentially, top three,” said McGreal.

“Danny (Cowley) has a good crowd there – both him and Nick (Cowley) have generated that.

“We’re looking forward to it, as we always do – that’s why we’re in the business.

“When we played them earlier in the season, it was a tough game but we managed to get the win.

“We approached it a bit differently and played a three, so it’s a little bit of food for thought on how we do things.

“They won the Checkatrade Trophy.

“They have a style of play that is different to ours and we know that we have to combat that, because that’s a big part of their armoury.

“You can’t get away from what they’ve done – they’ve got a way of winning games in this division, as we have.

“They’re a huge club in this division and that brings pressure, after what Danny and Nicky have done there but they’re handling that.”

Colchester are set to again be without Tom Lapslie (hamstring) and Brennan Dickenson (thigh), this weekend.
