WITHAM Town manager Adam Flint wants his team to take another step closer to their season’s target when they return to Bostik League division north action tonight.

Following Saturday’s 6-1 loss to AFC Hornchurch and Tuesday’s 1-0 win against Romford, Witham have a quick turnaround as they host Brentwood Town on Thursday night.

Having moved up to 11th on 56 points with their win against Romford, it will give Town another chance to close in on the 60-point target Flint has set for them this year which would make sure they better last year’s total.

He said: “It’s our goal to get the 60 points this year and if we can finish in the top half of the table then I think we’ll have done really well.

“There are a lot of good teams in this league this year and I feel that 60-point marker should take us there.

“However, Brentwood tonight is another tough game and we are then at Haringey Borough (on Saturday), who can still get automatic promotion, before a trip to Maldon (on Tuesday), who are also pushing for the play-offs.

“I’m just hoping that we can get at least four points from the next four games to take us to the 60.

“It will be a test for the players, though.

“There are a few tired legs because we are not a massive squad and the games are coming round quickly.

“We’re using some of the younger players and will keep mixing it up over the next few games.”

Flint said John Watson was struggling to be fit for tonight’s action due to a knee injury and Chinedu Osadebe may be sidelined by an ankle problem.

The Witham boss admitted to being disappointed by his team’s loss to AFC Hornchurch, having beaten the Urchins earlier in the season, and was dismayed to see them concede late goals. However, he was pleased with how his players bounced back against Romford in midweek.

The Witham boss added: “It was disappointing on Saturday as we just folded late on after being in the game.

“We conceded an awful first goal and were then 2-0 down at half-time, but we pulled one back through Liam Whipps to get back into it.

“We then gave away a soft penalty, but then Correy (Davidson) had a penalty saved.

“That would have made it 3-2, but they then just got away from us through our own mistakes.

“Hornchurch are top of the league for a reason and full respect to them but it was more through our own fault at the end and that was disappointing as it wasn’t a 6-1 game.

“However, it was good to bounce back on Tuesday with a win and another clean sheet against Romford.

“I think we deserved the win because we had more chances and we did really well, but it was hard on them as it dropped them back to the foot of the table."
