REECE Grant feels Braintree Town’s last two games highlight the belief within their camp that they can finish in the Vanarama National League South play-off positions this season.

Grant scored a 94th minute winner in the 4-3 victory against Whitehawk on Tuesday, following hot on the heels of another thrilling finale at the IronmongeryDirect Stadium when Luke Allen’s 98th minute strike sealed a 2-1 win against Concord Rangers on Saturday.

They were two crucial goals that delivered an invaluable four points to keep the Iron two points off the top seven spots and in the race for the play-offs ahead of their last three games of the campaign.

Grant came off the bench to score twice against the Hawks and felt the finish to that game showed how they think about their chances.

He said: “I don’t think there were words to sum up that game (against Whitehawk).

“It was a frantic finish but it was nothing more than we’ve deserved all season.

“You need a little bit of luck and I think it has come our way in the last two, but we’ll take it.

“We were piling on the pressure and I think we deserved that late goal.

“We have a small squad compared to pretty much everyone in our league, but the belief we have is greater than ever.

“The spirit is great and I don’t think we could ask for a better bunch of lads.

“It is a whole squad effort.

“There were some of us stepping off the bench against Whitehawk and we need the whole squad together to keep going, but the belief is right up there.

“We keep clawing it back because we have that never-say-die attitude.

“It’s all about momentum and taking it one game at a time.

“As long as we keep plugging away we’ll be where we want to be.

“We know what we can achieve; we are knocking on the door and it’s in our hands as we have a game in hand over some sides above us.

“As long as we take it one game at a time and get the wins then we’ll be where we want to be.

“It’s a good feeling because we’re showing we have the mettle to do it.”

Braintree’s other recent late goal hero - Allen - has had an impact since coming back into the side after a suspension and is glad that he is posing a threat going forward.

The Iron midfielder said: “I was gutted to miss the game at St Albans, but as soon as I came back in against Hungerford I said I would try to show my worth.

“I wanted to show what I give to the team in the business end of the season.

“I popped up with a couple of goals recently and hopefully there are more to come with games still to go.

“I feel very confident that I can score in games.

“The Gaffer is playing me a little bit higher because he has brought Diaz (Wright) in and that’s enabling me and Billy to get up closer to the strikers.

“I always believe in games that I will have chances to score.

“Luckily on Saturday it was the winner with the last kick of the game, which was even better.”
