John McGreal says it is not just down to his strikers to get Colchester United back on the scoring trail at Stevenage today.

The U’s head to the Lamex Stadium having scored just once in more than seven and a half hours of football in League Two.

The last time a Colchester attacker found the net was when Mikael Mandron scored their winner against Coventry City, on February 13.

However, head coach McGreal insists scoring goals is not just the responsibility of their forwards.

He said: “It’s not just about being reliant on the strikers to score goals – it’s about throwing down the challenge to the wingers and the midfielders and from set pieces, which is where we need to improve.”

Colchester face a Stevenage side who will be managed for the first time today by new manager Dino Maamria – but McGreal says it is all about what the U’s do.

“It’s another good game for us – it’s a local game,” said the U’s boss.

“They have a new manager and will be right up for the game and we have to be as we finished against Morecambe.

“Generally, it’s all about what we do.

“He might change the style of the play but the personnel is the same and it’s all about what we go there and try to do.”

Colchester will check on the fitness of defender Frankie Kent, prior to their trip to Hertfordshire.

The centre-back missed the 0-0 draw at Morecambe in midweek with a knee injury.

McGreal said: “Frankie has had a scan and it’s come back clear, so it’s good news.

“It’s not as serious as (physio) Tony (Flynn) first thought.

“If he does come back and train, it’s how he reacts.”

Experienced midfielder Doug Loft could be on the bench after recovering from a calf problem but defender Ryan Inniss is again unavailable, as Colchester look for their first win in six matches.
