Kurtis Guthrie will be axed from Colchester United’s squad for the second successive game, this weekend.

But U’s head coach John McGreal has refused to rule out the possibility of the fiery striker playing for them again, between now and the end of the season.

Guthrie, who was left out of Colchester’s 0-0 draw with Morecambe on Tuesday night, will once again be overlooked for their game at Stevenage on Saturday.

The 24-year-old, who is out of contract this summer, has not been considered for selection by McGreal since being withdrawn midway through the second half of the U’s home loss at the hands of Yeovil Town, last weekend.

Guthrie stormed straight down the tunnel after being substituted midway through the second half of the 1-0 defeat against the Glovers, having earlier in the game been involved in a squabble with team-mate Sammie Szmodics over who would take a first-half penalty.

McGreal said: “Kurtis won’t be involved at the weekend.

“Will he be involved again this season? We’ll have to wait and see.

“We’ve got seven games after (Stevenage) so things can change.

“It’s my decision for him not to be involved.”

Guthrie has managed just 13 appearances for Colchester this season since returning from a seven-month lay-off due to a serious ankle injury, last September.

The former Forest Green Rovers forward spent a further three months on the sidelines after suffered a setback following his injury comeback but has managed only seven starts, since then.
