WITHAM Town are hoping to continue being one of Bostik League division north’s best travellers when they head to Mildenhall on Saturday.

Having been frustrated by a waterlogged pitch that postponed their game at Bury Town on Tuesday, Witham head to Mildenhall with an impressive away record that was further enhance by a 3-0 win at Tilbury last weekend.

It was a result that not only extended an excellent recent run of form that has seen them keep clean sheets in and win five of their last six games, but also stretched a sequence of unbeaten away games in the league.

The last time Witham were beaten in division north action away from the Village Glass Stadium was at Ware on September 23 and that was only thanks to a last-minute strike by their hosts on the day, so manager Adam Flint is hoping it is a run that extends even further when they head to Mildenhall.

He said: “I can’t put my finger on why it has been the case, but it’s a great run to not have been beaten away in almost four months.

“If we have struggled more, it has been at home for some reason.”

Flint is hoping that the away form keeps going this weekend when he takes his team to Mildenhall, but, having seen their opponents in action recently, he knows it may be a difficult trip.

“I went to see Mildenhall when they played Maldon last week and they are a good side,” said Flint.

“They have Danny Crowe up front, who is an ex-pro, and have pace down the wings.

“They are also solid at the back and get players behind the ball, so it will be a tough test, but then I think they will think the same about us. We are certainly a different side from the one that they drew against at our place in October.”

The Witham boss said he had no injury concerns.

Meanwhile, Witham’s latest success on the road came as they beat Tilbury in an Essex derby with two goals from Correy Davidson and an Elliot Ronto strike coming before half-time.

It helped extend a run of form that has seen Flint’s side rise up the table and while he is remaining cautious of their ability to make a late run into the division north play-off places before the end of the season, he is loving the confidence he is seeing from his players.

The Town boss added: “We have hit a purple patch and we must be the form team in the division at the moment alongside (leaders) Hornchurch.

“We are top of the form table for away games and the boys have done really well.

“We moved things around again at Tilbury and I left Kofi (Gyebi) out as I wanted to rest him for the game at Bury, but we had John Watson in and he did very well again.

“We just have to keep it going.

“I don’t know if teams are looking at us now, but I’ve had people remarking to me about how we are flying.

“I’m staying cautious, though, as a finish in the play-offs is out of our hands.

“Teams above us have games in hand and that’s what I’m looking at.”
