TOM Richardson has admitted he could not turn down the chance to join National League South side East Thurrock United.

The front man, who had been under contract, has left for an undisclosed fee.

Richardson spent 18 months at the Taydal Stadium, being instrumental in last season's Bostik League division north title success, and scored 34 goals in his 59 R's appearances.

"It's with a heavy heart that I've decided to leave Brightlingsea in pursuit of a new challenge that I felt I couldn't turn down," he said.

"I'd like to thank the players, backroom staff and most importantly the fans for making me feel so welcome during my time here.

"I've made some lifelong friends and some of my best footballing memories which I'll never forget.

"I wish (new manager) Tom Rothery and everyone else associated the best of luck in the club's first-ever season in the Bostik League premier division and hope they continue to punch above their weight."

Former Romford striker Richardson joined Regent from Brentwood Town and soon became a hit with the Regent faithful, forming a prolific partnership with Aaron Condon.
