COLCHESTER RAVENS 31

WESTCOMBE PARK 12

Zoo League division two

COLCHESTER Ravens chalked up their first win of the season after beating fellow strugglers Westcombe Park, at Mill Road.

The Blacks' second team saw off their south London opponents, thanks to a very complete performance.

Colchester took an early lead and wing James Parry opened the scoring after only two minutes with an unconverted try.

And the Ravens doubled their tally on 17 minutes through wing Will Allen, who dotted down to make the score 10-0.

Colchester’s scrum dominated the Westcombe Park pack, winning a series of penalties during what was an excellent display of power.

But the visitors did get their first points on the board on the half hour, which is how it stayed until the break.

Jordan Kerr entered the fray at the break, accompanying starting openside Zac Puckey as senior debutants.

The first 20 minutes of the second half was all Colchester, with some impressive runs through midfield from Eli Castle and captain Andy Goodbourn.

Goodbourn scored the Ravens' third to the left of the post and fly-half Jack White converted, to push the score to 17-5.

Jon Perry and Kieran Payne entered the game and within a minute, Perry was on hand to give the delicate draw and pass to now left winger Charlie Champs who scored the hosts' bonus point try.

White slotted the conversion to put the Ravens 24-5 up, before Westcombe Park enjoyed their best spell of the game.

A lovely chip and chase by the visitors' fly-half saw him make it 24-12, with 15 minutes to go.

But Colchester had the last say when Payne took White's last pass and stampeded over the top of the helpless Westcombe Park full back to score under the posts for a try that White converted, to wrap up victory.
