JESSICA Baxter came through a gruelling final to take the girls' 18 and under Junior Cup title at Braintree Lawn Tennis Club.

Facing Becky Clarke in the final, the pair played for over an hour with some long rallies and great sportsmanship throughout and it was hard to see who would become the girls' champion.

However, the end result was a 6-3, 6-3 win for Baxter.

Braintree's ten and unders also competed for the green title.

Players had a round-robin box league with the top two progressing towards the semi-finals, while the others in the box moved to the consolation draw.

The consolation draw was between Charlie Jarvis, Daniel Toombs, Elliott Egorr, and Jude Gray, with all boys playing some great games and gaining vital match practice.

Meanwhile, the semi-finals had Razvan Bulancea facing Adam Gilchrist and Jules Hardy against Alex Fleming.

All boys played great serve and returns and used tactics to outwit their opponents, but it was Bulancea and Hardy who headed into the final.

Bulancea found it hard to stay with Hardy, though, and he lifted the title with a final score of 4-0, 4-0.

Some of the club's younger players contested for the boys' 14 and under title.

Joshua Hamilton, Nathan Miller, Jude Gray and Razvan Bulancea all made it through to the semi-finals while Jules Hardy, Adam Gilchrist and Jacob Chillingworth played consolation matches.

The first semi-final saw Hamilton beat Gray 6-0, while the other had Miller using his experience to pull away from Bulancea to win 6-2.

The final again saw some grit and determination, with long rallies as both Miller and Hamilton pushed for the boys' title, but the end of play saw a 6-2 win for Hamilton.
