THE match between the Braintree and Colne Clubs at Hill and Black fished harder than expected in what appeared to be ideal conditions.

It was no surprise that the carp were not feeding due to the visible spawning activity taking place, but whether the silver fish were also spawning it was much harder to tell as there were no visible signs.

Braintree's John Daniels fished the feeder in peg 23 to net 14 bream for a match-winning 30-8-0, which proved to be the only highlight for the home team.

The visitors had the next three weights to all win their sections - Dave Partridge 29-8-0, Terry Sowerby 16-8-0, Neil Hood 16-0-0 - and give the Colne Angling Club a walkover.

Carp dominated in Braintree's Friday Sweep at Notley although most of the action came in the second half of the match. Mark Orrin landed four with F1s to win the match with a total weight of 24-11-0.

Sections (excluding winner): 1 J Daniels 14-6-0, 2 B Reed 20-11-0.

The Kelvedon club have the Steve Mason Open at Seabrooks on Sunday and places can be booked with Derek Harper on 07793 085460.
