COLCHESTER'S Andy Reid was crowned Open Men's singles and doubles champion at the Essex Lawn Tennis Association Winter Individual tournament finals.

Reid, who plays and coaches at The Essex Golf and Country Club, won two titles at the event at Redbridge Sports Centre.

Reid beat fellow Colchester player Tom Perry of the Officers Club, to land the singles crown.

He won the first set 6-0 thanks to some awesome power tennis and then took the next five games.

Perry won his only game of the match, leaving Reid to serve out and complete a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Reid then teamed up with Andrew Knights to take on Perry and Harlow's Luke Spooner, the top seeds.

The Essex Golf and County Club pair took the first set 6-3 and the second set went with serve, until Perry and Spooner saved four match points to take it to a tie-break.

Despite some tight games in the third set, Reid and Knights wrapped up the set 6-0 to retain their title.

Knights then teamed up with Anne Burton to win the Over-45 mixed doubles, 6-3 6-2.

There was further Colchester success when Lexden Rackets and Fitness's Lynn Lennard-Jones beat Lexden Hill's Julie Sexton 6-4, 6-4 in a close, tiring match to win the Over-45 singles.

Sexton combined with Sophie Bardrick in the Over-40 doubles but after a tight first set, lost 6-4, 6-1.

Sexton also reached the Over-55 ladies doubles final with Jenny King which they won by walkover, after their opponents withdrew due to injury.
