IT didn't prove to be a profitable day for local sides in either the first or premier divisions of the Thurlow Nunn League.

The premier division saw Wivenhoe Town looking to bounce back from a 6-0 mauling by Gorleston, but the Dragons were edged out at the Maple Tree Cars Stadium by visiting Thetford Town.

What proved to be the game's deciding moment came in the first half as a cross from Thetford's Cruise Nyadtaya fell to an unmarked Ryan Fuller in the home penalty area and he made no mistake in firing home.

It gave the visitors the lead at half-time and it was one that they held on to.

Wivenhoe tried to respond, with an effort from Matt Eve going just over the bar, but Thetford had too much and hit the bar after the break and home keeper Ben Gallifant had to make a couple of saves late on to keep the deficit to one at the end.

Across the other side of Colchester, Stanway Rovers were entertaining Fakenham Town and it was a similar story, with the hosts beaten by a single goal.

Rovers had enjoyed their first win under manager Karl Duguid seven days before, but, after a goalless first half, Fakenham went ahead thanks to an Ashley Jarvis penalty, which proved the difference at the final whistle.

There was also a single-goal defeat for Brantham Athletic as they lost 2-1 at Great Yarmouth Town.

There was no goal action in the first half, but, after the hosts went ahead after the break, Athletic hit back as Ollie Mann knocked on a cross from player/manager Michael Brothers to where Ben Newson was waiting to smash the ball in.

However, they fell behind again and were unable to respond a second time.

In division one, Braintree Town Reserves also had a long trip up to Norfolk to face King's Lynn Town Reserves and it was a similar story as they lost 1-0 to a Eoin McQuaid strike for the hosts.

Holland FC were beaten 2-0 on home turf as, having held visiting Woodbridge Town to a stalemate in the first half, they were undone by strikes from Aaron Churchyard and Ryan Keeble after the break.

There was at least a point for division one leaders Coggeshall Town, though.

Tyrone Scarlett was on target for the second game running but the front runners were pegged back at West Street by visiting Debenham LC.

There may not have been too much success for local sides in Saturday's action, but Halstead Town bucked that trend the day before as they had earlier won 4-1 at AFC Sudbury Reserves in division one.

The hosts ended the game with just nine men after two sending offs and the Humbugs made it seven points from their last three games with two goals from Shaun Avis and one apiece for Joe Illett and Tom Cook.
