LEGENDARY Clacton cricketer John Stuck is celebrating a very special milestone - his 200th century.

The dashing batsman hit his first senior ton way back in February 1962, playing for Bures against Whitton.

Now, more than 50 years on and in excess of 3,000 matches later, he has clocked up his 200th.

It was achieved while playing as a guest for East Herts Cavaliers against Chelmer Veterans, at Stock Cricket Club.

Stuck, who will be 73 in November, has played club cricket in the area, mainly for Clacton, for more than 50 years and 52 of his centuries came while playing for the Vista Road side.

"It's difficult to pick any out as being memorable," said the reigning Tendring Male Sports Personality of the Year.

"One I do remember with great satisfaction, though, was the one made for Suffolk against Buckinghamshire, at Slough, in 1970.

"It helped save the team from defeat, having been made to follow-on.

"Much more recently, I remember the one made at the Allan Border Oval in Brisbane that helped England Over-70s beat Australia last October.

"Any hundred against Australia gives you a great sense of achievement!"

Batsman-wicketkeeper Stuck played Minor Counties cricket for Suffolk and has also represented Suffolk Over-50s, Essex Over-60s and Over-70s.

While most of his club cricket was with Clacton, he also turned out for Frinton’s third team in the Two Counties Championship, as well as Long Melford.

It is doubtful whether Stuck senior career statistics can be matched by any other club cricketer in the country.
