RAINHAM put a big dent in Aythorpe Roding's challenge for T Rippon Mid-Essex League division one promotion by beating them by six wickets.

Batting first, Aythorpe Roding got off to a good start, with openers Paul Gravatt and Richard Eaton hitting 98 for the first wicket.

Paul Gravatt scored 36, before Sam Gravatt then arrived at the crease and built an 87-run partnership with Eaton.

Sam hit 53 and Eaton was stumped three runs short of his century and three wickets then fell quickly, but Craig McKenzie's 18 not out saw Aythorpe Roding reach 231 for six in 45 overs.

Rainham had a bad start in the run chase, losing four wickets for 80 runs as Craig McKenzie claimed three for 30 and Liam Rosewell one for 49, but a fifth wicket stand of 152 saw Rainham to victory.
