DUNMOW Cricket Club's unbeaten run stretched to four games in Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two with a comprehensive victory against a Long Melford side that had inflicted a defeat against them earlier on in the season.

Inserted on a good looking wicket, Dunmow got off to an excellent start, with Luke Swanston and Tom Pierson-McGeorge continuing their good form with an opening stand of 165 in 28 overs.

Both batsmen scored aggressively on both sides of the wicket and made batting look easy before falling for 79 and 80 respectively.

A duck for Joe Gallant aside, the batsmen continued to put the hosts' bowlers to the sword, with Ollie Rooney making an unbeaten 52, Mark Rosewell 33 and George Gallant an unbeaten 42 as Dunmow finished on 309 for five.

Chasing down such a total was always going to be a challenge, made the harder almost immediately when Matt Gibson had Melford's skipper caught in the third over.

However, on a quick outfield, runs were quite easy to come by and although Gibson claimed a second wicket and Steve Hamlin took two in relatively quick succession, the score continued to build.

There was also a wicket for Baz Sewell and Gibson claimed a third wicket in the final over to give Dunmow an additional bonus point and 18 overall to leave Long Melford 82 runs short of the target despite their opener Cameron Stace finishing on 115 not out.

On Saturday Dunmow host Lakenheath.
