MARK Orrin proved to be the calm amid the storm of noise as he took top honours in Braintree and Bocking Angling Society's Sweep match at Notley.

The match was held on the same day that trees beside the lake were being cleared, but any fears that this would disturb the fish were dispelled as the angler nearest to the noise - Orrin - went on to win.

He landed carp and F1s to record a final total of 16-7-0.

On the opposite side of the lake, his son, Chris, weighed 10-7-0 to take second place.

Sections (excluding top two): 1 J Loosley 6-5-8, 2 P Thompson 6-11-0.

The fish were in the rushes, hopefully spawning, on the Sunday match, but all activity had ceased by Friday and there were fish landed with the top three weights all over 20lb.

Chris Orrin led the way on this one, with six carp forming the bulk of his 28-7-0 winning weight.

Pete Thompson had a mixed bag, weighing 21-10-0 for second and Mark Orrin had 20-2-0 of mainly carp for third.

On Sunday, the Kelvedon club have their Steve Mason Open on Seabrooks Reservoir at Great Leighs.
