LEE Collis and Andy Fowler edged ahead of Sean Kelly and James Bussell on countback to win the Tutton Timber aggregate stableford competition at Braintree Golf Club.

Both pairings returned 66 points, while countback was also required to decide third spot, with Ian Turner and John Coules gaining the verdict over Paul Willis and Julian Pegg on 65 points.

The Seniors' Wasp Trophy saw Ron Ship triumph with a nett 72 off a handicap of 26.

He finished a stroke ahead of Terry Barke (11), with Keith Lawless (10) third on 74.

The club’s assistant professional Steve Hambling continued his good start to the season by leading his team of Braintree members - James Hedger, Tom McGee and Joe Mason - to second place in a pro-am at Hendon.

The squad finished on ten under par, with Mason collecting a nearest the pin prize.

Last week’s mens’ stableford at Braintree was won by Dermot Burns (13) with 34 points, one better than Eric Roast (18).

Paul Willis (10) was third with 30.

The ladies’ stableford produced a clear winner in Mary Goodwin (13) with 37 points.

She finished five ahead of Cyd Rodford (17), while a countback was needed to decide third place on 30 points in favour of Maureen Woollcott (26) over Julie Race (8) and Marilyn Grubb (31).
