THERE was a local derby in the Essex Invitation Petanque League as second-placed Onley Arms travelled to neighbours Bocking Spinners.
The Onley's Ian Humm, Neil Morgan and Trevor Blows took a 7-2 lead in the triples, but the home trio of Ian Ruffle, Malcolm Smith and Richard Tite then took six at one end to take the lead.
However, a close finish saw the Onley edge home 13-10.
In the singles, Trevor Blows overwhelmed Trevor Turner 13-2 to seal the match, before Smith and Christina Knights took the pairs for the Spinners.
The Bocking BAH and Billericay A was a two-hour affair with Billericay taking the honours 2-1.
Paul Griffin and Mark Williams won Bocking BAH's point with a 13-4 pairs win.
Elsewhere, Blackwater U3A recorded a 3-0 win over Little Totham Swan and leaders Thorley beat Three Elms A 2-1.
