AFTER a turbulent couple of years, Witham Town chairman Mark Nicholls feels the club is suddenly on a "massive high" after the latest successes at the Village Glass Stadium.

Following on swiftly from the first team securing its place in Ryman League division north after a season-long battle against relegation, Witham Town Reserves have gone and retained their title as Thurlow Nunn Reserve League champions with a stylish flourish at the end of their campaign.

And the cherry on the cake was then added by the club's under-16s the following day as they beat Burnham Ramblers 3-2 to lift the Blackwater and Dengie Youth League Knockout Cup.

Nicholls said: "The weekend before was unbelievable with the first team staying up and then this week, we had the reserves winning the title and our under-16s winning a cup.

"It shows that the club's production line is working and it's been a great way to end the season.

"It's been a tough season, but suddenly we're on a massive high and everyone is looking forward to next year."

As well as being club chairman, Nicholls is also joint reserve team manager with Chris Hudson, so their victorious end to the season was an extra special moment for him.

Having beaten Whitton United 5-0 in their penultimate game, Witham hammered Lowestoft 10-0 to take the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League title by a point.

It meant they retained their crown from the season before, but Nicholls explained this season had been tougher as it had been a unified reserve league this year rather than one split for northern and southern teams.

"It's been unbelievable," he added.

"This is the first year that the Thurlow Nunn League have had all the reserve teams together in one division so to win it is something very special.

"It was split into north and south divisions before and winning the title again as a unified division shows what we've got here.

"We had a couple of defeats a few weeks ago and knew that we had to win our last two games to finish top, but doing the way we did was amazing.

"We won 5-0 against Whitton United and then won 10-0 against Lowestoft on the final day.

"One of our lads, Joshua Perry, scored seven of them and that meant he topped the league scoring chart as well.

"I think this one was even more special than the title that we won last year."
