Dunmow (150) lost to Clacton (230) by 80 runs
Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two
DUNMOW were unable to follow up their opening day victory against a strong Clacton side in division two of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.
Choosing to bowl first, Dunmow made an early breakthrough when Imran Sheikh chipped meekly to mid-off for one off the bowling of Josh Rix, however, the next chance was spurned as a catch went down at gully.
The Clacton upper order continued to score briskly and were 188 for five after 35 overs, but the Dunmow bowlers, particularly James Reyburn (two for 24) and Rix (six for 54) ran through the tail to ensure maximum bowling points.
A good start was needed to give Dunmow a chance of chasing Clacton's total of 230, but it did not come as they stumbled to 20 for four.
Skipper Paul Reid (23) and Mark Rosewell (41) steadied the ship, while Ieuan Bush, Rix and Matt Gibson all made useful contributions to get Dunmow to 150 and three batting points but they fell 80 runs short of their target.
Dunmow firsts travel to Ipswich on Saturday, while the seconds host Kelvedon & Feering thirds.
