Colchester United could welcome a trio of key players back to their starting line-up at Barnsley tomorrow.

Alex Gilbey, George Moncur and Elliot Lee were all surprisingly left on the bench for the U's 3-0 defeat against Burton Albion, last weekend.

However, they are all in contention to play the Tykes and caretaker boss David Wright says they will be considered for selection.

Wright said: “Elliot has had his calf problems and he missed the Crewe game so it was just looking at other bits and pieces.

“There was nothing else behind it and they’ll be back in the reckoning for Saturday.

“We trained on Thursday and we’ll train again today and then start thinking about picking the team.

“But those three players are important; they’re good players and are important to this football club.

“Obviously Alex will probably be leaving in the summer but he’s still here and has two games to play."

Louis Dunne will be hoping for another chance in Colchester's starting line-up, after his short-lived full debut against Burton.

The teenager was taken off at half-time and replaced by Moncur in the 3-0 defeat, as a result of Joe Edwards' dismissal.

Edwards will be available against Barnsley, after his red card against Burton was overturned.

“It was really unfortunate for Louis," added Wright, who confirmed that defender Leo Chambers is struggling with a sickness bug.

“He was excellent in training again and he’s one of the prospects I’m really excited about.

“The team hasn’t really been picked - that will be done over the next couple of games.

“We’ll see how it lies and then go from there."

Sam Walker, Sammie Szmodics and Marvin Sordell remain sidelined.
