MICHAEL Seaman coped best with the windy conditions to triumph in Playgolf Colchester’s par/bogey format competition.

Seaman (nine) played positively to triumph in division one with a winning score of plus one.

He carded an above average 11 pars and was the only player up against the course.

Paul Addison (six) was runner-up on countback from third-placed Adrian Binns (nine) and Alan Cursons (11), after the trio carded a score of minus two.

Addison carded eight pars and birdied the par-five ninth, before recording six back-nine pars.

Binns nearly did not start after leaving his shoes at home but returned to claim third spot, with his card consisting of eight pars.

Cursons also recorded eight pars but after a poor back nine, he left too much out on the course to recover.

John Chaplin (19) carded a level score to win division two, with his round highlights included a pair of pars.

Dean Rainbird (19) finished as runner-up on countback from Alex Crawford (16) thanks to a better back nine, after both carded scores of minus one.

Gareth Lee (23) won division three with a level score to beat Bernard Keyes (24) on minus one, while Alan Pearman (25) was third on minus three.

Geoff Backhouse coped best with the conditions to win Playgolf Colchester Golf Club’s Senior New Year Cup.

It is the first trophy of the season to be contested and considering the conditions it was well supported, with 41 entrants.

Overhead conditions were excellent but with the ground so saturated, scores were generally low.

Backhouse (ten) secured six pars, ten bogies and two double bogies for a nett 72.

David Needham was second with a nett 74 ahead of the ever-improving Greg King, who was third with 75.

Graham Almond made a welcome return after a couple of months out while the club’s senior section has wished Robin Kilburn, one of their finest players, a speedy recovery.

Playgolf Colchester’s senior stableford was played as a non-qualifier, in very wet and windy conditions.

Steve Loran (ten) dealt with the conditions best and carded 37 points to win.

He finished a point ahead of runner-up Brian Banks who played steady golf to finish on 36 points, a point ahead of third-placed Bernie Keys (35 points).

Harry Eels (28) carded 34 points to win division two, a point ahead of runner-up Mervin Harwood (33 points), while Patrick Driver was third with 32 points.

Kyung Cho won division one of the Playgolf Ladies Monthly Medal competition after recording a superb three-under-par nett 68. Two players finished 11 shots adrift on nett 77, with Maria Stallwood finished second ahead of Carol Farrance on countback.

Catherine Le Tue won division two with a hard-fought nett 83, ahead of runner-up Maureen Dale (nett 89) and Pauline Jordan (nett 91).
