The rain had abated at Redbridge Cycling Centre since Lee Valley Youth CC’s youth races in the morning and the sun had even come out.

However, the cold wind stiffened, with a strong headwind up the finishing straight, to make a hard day’s racing for Maldon & District Cycling Club’s fourth category riders in the East London Velo track race.

Anthony Marsh was the highest-placed Maldon rider coming home a very respectable 15th out of 60 starters, but huge chapeau goes to Joshua Doe for a tenacious effort to stay in the race and finish a very creditable 27th.

On Saturday, the club held their annual awards dinner at the Three Rivers Golf and Country Club with a great turnout of over 100 club members to support their 2015 winners.

The biggest winner of the evening was Steve Bass who picked up Time Trial Champion, Best All Rounder (BAR) and Vets BAR, Saturday morning ten-mile time-trial Champion, 25 and 50 mile time-trial cups, the cyclo-cross Trophy as well as the Vets 40+ Cyclo Cross Trophy. He was closely followed by Adrian Tovey who picked up the evening time-trial Champion, hilly time trial champion, the hill climb champion, the Alex Dowsett ten-mile time trial trophy (with Alex riding at the Playa De Palma Challenge for Movistar the club were honoured to have his parents Jan & Phil Dowsett there on the night to present the trophy to Adrian) and the Jim Turner vets time trial award.

Club captain Alex Ratter picked up the 100 mile time trial shield and the 12-hour time trial cup with a super impressive effort to win the latter having sustained a large crash a couple of weeks prior to the event which saw him complete the event with open weeping wounds.
